Will AI actually replace human work?

AI is changing the work structure, including replacing the human workforce with intelligent machines. Such changes are already happening in the manufacturing, service delivery, recruitment, and finance industries, to name a few. The consequence? People are relegated towards lower-paid jobs, or, worst-case scenario, they find themselves unemployed. A few years ago, Money published an article listing some examples of jobs that people will want in 2040 - five years later, the prediction seems more and more accurate.

So, is that it? Will AI replace human work for real?

The fear comes from the fact that machines can now not only replace humans in advanced tasks such as solving complex calculations and recognizing language and speech, but they can often outperform them. Under such conditions, it is inevitable to believe that machines can easily substitute any job.

But the answer is not that simple. Approximately half of the experts surveyed by Pew Research believe that robots and digital agents will displace many blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Increasing income inequality and creating virtually unemployable people are their concerns. The other half (52%) is optimistic that AI will create more jobs. Despite AI replacing humans, these experts believe that human ingenuity can create new jobs, industries, and ways to make a living.

However, an article by Harvard Business Review suggests that AI isn't as intuitive, emotional, or culturally sensitive as humans are, and it will never be able to replace those qualities. Therefore, artificial intelligence should not be seen as a threat to future jobs but as a valid ally to enhance human performance. Other articles, like the one by AI Journal and Antino, seem to agree that AI cannot substitute certain human skills but can only make them better.

What is your stance on the matter? Do you believe that machines will take over human work or not?
