Bring your concentration to the next level - Recommendations to stay focused

Education first

Focus is not a passive activity that just happens because you force yourself to concentrate on a task. On the contrary, it is an active exercise.

Educate yourself to be focused by training your brain with games like crosswords, chess, jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, or memory games, for example. They are also great to spend time with your partner, kids, colleagues, etc.

Those games have the power to improve your short-term & working memory and problem-solving skills, among others.

A study shows that you do not need more than a 15-minute session at least five days a week for ten weeks to see results!

Design effective breaks

Taking breaks is fundamental if you want to stay focused, but not any sort of pause is effective.

You need to detach yourself completely from your work. Change room, go outside, spend some time in the sun, stay off-screen, go for a walk. Active breaks are fundamental, especially if you are sitting in front of a computer the whole day.

We suggested a few examples of things that you can do, but it would be ideal to spend some time designing your breaks according to your needs. Setting a specific time isn't mandatory; you should pause when your mind starts wandering and you notice that your concentration is lacking.

Exercise

"Mens sana in corpore sano," the Latins used to say. Regular exercise is a great resource to improve your general health, including attention and concentration. Research shows that progress can be seen after four weeks of consistent training already!

If you have never been a sports enthusiast, all you need is to start from a short walk. It is not expensive, and it can be done anywhere.

Mind your sleeping habits

If you want to give your best during the day, it is crucial to have a good night's sleep.

Sleep deprivation has several counterindications, including mood switches, depression, weight gain, reduced concentration. Still, it can also translate into more severe problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, and heart failure or stroke.

Avoid watching TV, your phone, or your laptop for at least one hour before going to bed; try not to eat when bedtime is approaching; maintain a cool temperature in your room. If you are experiencing trouble sleeping for a prolonged period, consider visiting an expert.

Make time for your passions

To conclude, whether it is family time, playing the guitar, or reading sci-fi novels, make sure you always save some time to dedicate yourself to what you love. Do you remember what one of the most famous Kubrick characters said? "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Don't be like Jack; take time for yourself and attend to your passions!
