Team players communicate their vision

A successful company needs a shared and transparent vision to thrive and team players willing to work towards a common goal. Here are some guidelines to follow to create a united and team-oriented environment in these uncertain times.

1. Prepare a pen and paper because this week's quote by Andrew Carnegie is so powerful that you want to write it down and always have it in your sight:

"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results".

The original vision may bear the name of only one person, but it does not translate into reality without the work and support of a team. As a leader, it is essential to recognize the role of each member of the company and take the time to explain why their work must be performed in a given way. It only takes one bolt out of place for the fastest car in the world to underperform. The same happens within a company.

2. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the various political leaders adopted different measures to address a common problem. Consequently, the lack of a shared narrative in the initial stages did not allow many citizens of multiple countries to establish a sense of commonality, which is essential to overcome the problem in the shortest possible time.

There is a lesson that business leaders can learn from this situation, which is to take action right away to ensure that their team members are provided with clear and consistent instructions.

The uncertainty caused by COVID-19 raised stress and anxiety levels. It also led many to focus on the present rather than the future. For this reason, as this practical guide from McKinsey & Company suggests, it is imperative that leaders set long-term goals, keep communication frequent and straightforward, and strive to build the trust that many struggles to find in other authorities.

3. Despite a rough transition from the traditional office to the home office, around 83% of employees who work from home are currently satisfied with the change, according to PwC's US Remote Work Survey. However, 87% of employees recognize the importance of the traditional office environment to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues.

With at least 50% of employees returning to the traditional office, leaders must ensure that they implement the best strategies to prevent the negative consequences of isolation.

Maintain team-building activities even when working remotely. While it may have its downsides, it is always better to show your employees that you care about forming and maintaining a united and compact group rather than doing absolutely nothing. Here are some fun remote team-building ideas. However, also consider moving these activities outdoors while complying with current safety regulations.

These are times when you can reinforce the communication of your vision, making sure your employees don't forget about your shared goals.
